Reading Challenge 2014

<img:stuff/SFdiv1.gif>

Welcome to the Reading Challenge 2014. The idea is to set yourself a certain number of books to read in 2014 and then... You read that many books! After you read them, you should totally write a review of it. YOU set the amount of books you want to read this year: it can be as low as 5, or as high as 200.

How to join up:

Follow the example below. write your name below, and then a link to the wiki-page where you will be keeping a list of the books you've read. Below that, keep a tally of how many books you've read, and also list when you joined the challenge. E.g.:

FAQ

Q: Can I re-read books I've already read?
A: You can re-read books you've already read prior to this year (providing you haven't already written a review on it) but you can't count the same book twice, even if you read it twice this year.

Q: How do I write a review?
A: Go to your ET diary. In the top right corner are a load of buttons. One of them says 'write a review'. Click it!

Q: It's February/March/November - can I still join?
A: Sure. But take when you're starting into consideration when deciding your goal.

Q: Can I count comics/graphic novels?
A: That's entirely up to you, and whether you personally count them as books or not. The point of this challenge is to get people to read more, so if you already read 300 comic books a year, then maybe you shouldn't count them. (NB: I know many people in other challenges count 3-5 comics/mangas as equivalent to one book).

Q: I started reading a book last year, but finished it this year, can I count that?
A: Yes. But you can't count books you start this year and don't finish.

2013-12-31 [Akayume]: Anticipatory joining. :P Maybe I will actually manage to keep mine updated this year!

2014-01-01 [Nioniel]: Yay! This year I think I can do it. I halved my goal for last year and it seems much more manageable. Plus, anything extra read will feel like even greater an accomplishment. ;)

2014-01-01 [Akayume]: Yeah, I got waaaay over my goal because my goal was so small. Felt good man.

2014-01-01 [Viking]: Maybe I should change my goal to 3.

2014-01-01 [windowframe]: I've never bothered changing mine, though I'm hardly trying to reach 100 each year now. But if I lower it and then hit the lowered target, I'll have no sense of achievement because I had to lower it (that's not to say anyone shouldn't have a sense of achievement whatever goal they set, just that I'm an idiot sometimes).

2014-01-02 [Nioniel]: Have you hit the 100 mark before? I know there's no way I could read that many in a year, and I'm sure I'm not even half as busy as you are most of the time!

2014-01-02 [windowframe]: Nope. I think the closest I managed was high 70s a few years ago.

2014-01-02 [Nioniel]: Wow! That's pretty impressive.

2014-01-02 [Triola]: Actually joining, for the first time, instead of just watching <.<

2014-01-02 [Akayume]: I used to read close to 100 a year in high school. I had so much free time then. :( One day!

2014-01-03 [CuteCommander]: Good luck to those of you with a higher goal than me! I suddenly realised last night that I'll need to read more than 3 books a month to meet my target!

2014-01-04 [pegasus1000]: I have been reading REALLY slow. I thought 20 would be a good goal last year and only got to 8... If I do better this year I will be happy. Being almost finished with a book I started last year should help just a bit.

2014-01-08 [Stephen]: If I ever get around to getting a Kindle, I'll make a list. :3

Kindles do count for this, right? xD;

2014-01-08 [pegasus1000]: I hope so. I have been counting the e-books I have read as real books.

2014-01-08 [Stephen]: "Q: Can I count comics/graphic novels?
A: That's entirely up to you, and whether you personally count them as books or not. The point of this challenge is to get people to read more ... "

I'd just assume this means yes. x)

2014-01-11 [hanhepi]: My goal is 1. By golly, I'm only 190 pages from the end of a book right now... I better actually meet my goal this year!
